It was November 13, 2019 and we were taking our first tour of Villa degli Olivi.

Not exactly. There it was. The green Vendita sign attached to the gate of another sad, abandoned house in Italy. It was July, 2019 and we were at the end of our house-hunting trip around central Italy.
Not even remotely. However, we were sure that Spello, I Borghi più belli d'Italia, was the one. After visiting so many villages and hill towns around Umbria, Marche, and even a little over the line into (gasp) Tuscany, we knew the combination of Villa degli Olivi and the beautiful village of Spello felt right.
It was November, 2019. We signed the papers, asked for an extended closing time-frame (so that we could return for the closing), but who knew those 6 months would turn into a year and 6 months? Who could have imagined in November 2019 what would happen to the world in 2020? It was from a science fiction novel.

Nine weeks after Easter, the Catholic Church celebrates Corpus Domini (or Body of Christ, also called Corpus Christi) in honor of the Eucharist. Spello has been celebrating this important religious holiday since the early 1960's. Spellani spend many months preparing for the festival. All of the 'carpets' are made from real flowers and other plants, which are hand-picked, petals plucked, dried, sorted, and stored in many tavernas around the town. To be cont.
Spello is located at the base of Monte Subasio a bald/flat topped mountain inhabited by hikers, bikers, paragliders, cows, horses and beautiful flowers in the spring! There are many trails up and down Subasio for mountain bikers and road biders alike. We are also located very close to the dedicated 40 kilometer bike trail that runs from Assisi to Spoleto with several wineries along the way!
